Save

'Save' is TONY McNALLY's third album, but his first for RGF Records. Quite unlike his previous two jazz-themed offerings 'SAVE' is a collection of songs, written, produced and sung by TONY, who is also a multi-instrumentalist and plays ten instruments on the album.

However, this is not a one-man album, as several other musicians are involved, most notably the quicksilver guitar of John Henry Hedley, probably best known for his years with a Newcastle band known as Last Exit, the bass player of which was Sting. On bass guitar is one of the foremost African musicians in Britain, Deon Krishnan, who has worked with the likes of Dionne Warwick and saxophonist Andrew Young.

Also involved are a number of "young voices" - children. TONY is better known as a highly successful music teacher at two local schools, where his ability to inspire pupils who previously regarded music as irrelevant has been recognised both regionally and nationally. His classes adore him, because he makes a potentially dull subject into a lesson they never want to miss.

RGF came across TONY at a 'Sunday For Sammy' charity concert where TONY was on a bill with the 'Auf Wiederseh'n Pet' cast (Messrs. Healy, Nail and Whately), Lindisfarne and other local celebs. He heard we were doing an album of local acts, 'Angels Of The North' (RGF/WOWCD 049) and provided three highly original recordings, one of which ('Angel Of The North') became the album's title track. It's also included here, but in a slightly longer version.

To promote the 'Save' album, TONY, along with John Hedley and Deon Krishnan, is making several high profile live appearances: at the North Shields Fish Quay Festival on 30th May, at the Cookson Festival, South Shields on 14th June, and at The Customs House Theatre (also in South Shields) on 15th and 24th July (the latter as part of the Guitar Festival). More live dates are being planned.

TONY McNALLY will surprise many people with 'Save'. Unlike its predecessors, 'Pictures Of A Town' and 'The River', which were both conceptual instrumental albums, 'Save' is joyful, melodic and optimistic - precisely what is needed to cheer everyone up!
